A study carried out by the World Health Organization provides in particular for the fact that smoking not only affects the smoker? This affects other people around Europe as well.

Reuters reported that a study by researchers from the who revealed that one out of every hundred deaths in the world can be attributed to passive smoking. The study is the first of its kind, and assess the global impact of second hand smoke.

The study, led by Annette Pruss-Ustun Geneva, partly said that "two-thirds of these deaths occur in Africa and South Asia."

Children are most likely exposed to second-hand smoke at home, and mortality rates of children in these areas may be the result of "lethal combination" infectious diseases and tobacco. The study stated further that 40 percent of children, 33 percent of whom were no-smoking men and 35 percent of non-smoking women were exposed to secondhand smoke in 2004.

Deaths among children was said to be more prevalent, poor and middle-income countries. The same did not hold true for adults, however, as deaths among this age group was extended to all levels of income.

Researchers from the who studied data from 192 countries, starting from the year 2004. They are employed by mathematical modeling to estimate of deaths.
