The good news, according to a BusinessWeek, Bloomberg feature is that it reduces mortality for type 1 diabetes; There will, however, falling fast enough.
A study led by Dr. Trevor j. Orchard, Professor of epidemiology, medicine and pediatrics at the Graduate School of public health at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, showed a significant reduction in mortality of people suffering from type 1 diabetes. The researchers determined that the patients who were diagnosed with the condition in the 30s had a lower mortality rate compared against those who had been diagnosed in the 80s.
Dr. Orchard gave the following comment: "encouraging thing is that, due to good [diabetes] control, you can have a life expectancy near normal."
Despite these encouraging statistics, however, the study also found that the mortality rates for patients with type 1 fonts are still considerably higher than the general population – an impressive 7 times higher. For certain demographic groups such as women, for example, the disparity in mortality rates is even more important: the rates of mortality for women who have diabetes type 1 is 13 times higher than those of women who are not suffering from the disease.
Patients with type 1 diabetes produce little or no insulin, so they are forced to rely on insulin replacement therapy all their lives. Insulin replacement therapy, however, are not as effective as naturally produced insulin.
