Brand-Name Drugs, Generic Drugs, and Illegal Prescription Drugs

If you've thought about buying prescription drugs on the internet you may have found the whole experience rather confusing. Here are some questions you might have wondered about.

Are generic drugs as good as brand-names?
Are drug copies such as "generic viagra" safe to use?
Does it matter if a drug is not "FDA approved"?
Are you breaking US law if you buy non-FDA-approved drugs on the internet?

These are just some of the questions many people have about online pharmacies and online drugs. The purpose of this article is to answer some of these questions

1. What is a Generic Drug?In the US and many other countries, a "generic" drug is a copy of a brand-name drug. It has identical active ingredients as the brand-name version, and so it is the same as the brand-name version in dosage, safety, strength, quality, performance, and intended use.

A generic version of a brand-name drug is not just similar to its brand-name counterpart. It is identical in all its important characteristics. It must not look like the brand-name version, and it may have a different flavor. But the amount of important active ingredients is the same, and therefore it has the same therapeutic characteristics as its brand-name counterpart.

2. Does every Brand-Name Drug have a Generic Counterpart?

No, every brand-name drug does not have a generic counterpart. This is especially the case with newer drugs such as Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra. These brand-name formulations are patent-protected for 20 years from the date of the submission of the patent. That means that no other drug company can introduce a "generic" version of any of these drugs while its patent is in effect. This allows the original developer of the brand-name drug to recover research and development costs.

When the patent for a specific drug expires, other companies -- including the original developer of the brand-name drug -- can apply to the FDA to sell generic versions.

This also explains why legitimate generic drugs are cheaper than their brand-name counterparts. A generic manufacturer does not have to recover research and development costs and can therefore sell them for less. This also has a tendency to drive down the price of the brand-name version as well.

3. Do Generic Drugs have to be FDA-Approved?

Yes, all prescription drugs, including all generic drugs must be FDA approved. In order to be sold to the public, generic drugs must pass the same FDA inspections as their brand-name counterparts. They must be manufactured to the same high standards, and the facilities where they are produced are subjected to the same inspections. In fact, an estimated 50 percent of all generic drugs are produced by the same company that produces the brand-name version of the drug.

4. Is there such a thing as a Non-FDA-Approved Generic Drug?

No, technically speaking, there is no such thing as a non-FDA-approved "generic" drug.  As outlined above, legitimate "generic" drugs must have the same characteristics as their brand-name counterparts, and must pass through the same FDA approval process in order to be sold to the public.

When an offshore company copies a brand-name drug before its patent expires it cannot get FDA approval because it is breaking US law.

5. Problems with Offshore Copies of Brand-Name Drugs

There are two major problems with so-called "generic" drugs that are not FDA approved.

It is illegal to sell these drugs in the US (and other countries) because they are ignoring US and international patent laws
It is dangerous to buy and use these drugs, because they are not subject to inspection and regulation. According to some sources, "many of these generics are created in unsanitary, make-shift labs and over half of these medications tested are cited for being unsafe for onsumption." In many cases they are found to contain "little to none or too much of the active ingredient."

6. How Can You Be Sure You are Buying FDA Approved Drugs?

The website should say "FDA Approved" or "FDA Approved Pharmaceuticals"
Websites offering "generic" versions of newer drugs such as Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, and Propecia are selling non-FDA-approved versions of these drugs. These drugs have not been around long enough for their patent to have expired, so the "generic" copies are illegal copies.
Never buy from a website that has no phone number to call or physical address you can verify.
The online pharmacy should have knowledgeable licensed consultants able to answer your questions.

Investing In or Owning Drug Lab Properties

Clean Up (includes the insides and the outside of a building)

Air out the building

Removal of contaminated materials:

Carpets, carpet pads, Linoleum, drapes and blinds, air-filters, refrigerators, range, water heater, all tenant clothing and their furniture.

Removal needs to be to a site that accepts contaminated product.

All people that remove these items need to be specially trained and certified.

Surfaces: Extensive cleaning and replacement if the cooking occurred on those surfaces. After extensive wash down with bleach and other cleaners, seal walls and floors to seal in any contamination.

Ventilation systems: Furnaces and heaters will either need to be replaced or cleaned throughout all ductwork.

Plumbing: You might need to replace sinks, toilets and other accessible plumbing due to methamphetamine odors since meth residual was most likely deposited down the drains.

Repainting: Make sure the walls, ceilings and closets are cleaned, sealed and then painted.

Windows: Make sure they have been cleaned as well as the tracks. If the unit was especially heavily used, replace all of the windows. Doors in and outside need to be painted and door hardware needs to be washed down.

Exterior: Does the yard need to be cleaned up? Is there methamphetamine debris in the yard?

Most states required a certified industrial hygienist to approve of the clean up, and most states require a certificate of occupancy permit

Contact your state department of health for more information on this.

All You Need to Know about Hair Follicle Drug Testing

Hair sample drug testing is a great way to detect whether or not a person has used drugs in the past 90 days. Whether in an office format or in the home, hair drug testing serves the purpose of answering questions about an individual's drug use history.

How Does Hair Follicle Drug Testing Work?

Hair drug testing is actually quite simple and merely requires a sample of hair in order to be completed. Parents who are worried about their teen's use of drugs can collect a strand of hair from their pillow. Employers can request a sample from their employees. Once a hair sample has been collected, it is sealed in an envelope and sent to a participating laboratory for completion. Hair testing is fast and more accurate than other drug test forms.

For instance, hair sample drug testing can detect drug use for up to 90 days after use. The detection window is much larger in hair drug testing (compare it to few days for urine and saliva based drug testing) because trace amounts of drug chemicals become trapped inside each hair. A simple lab test can detect these trace chemicals making for either a positive or negative test result. Once the results are recorded, you are sent notification of the results. Some companies even provide a phone service where you call in, enter an account number and retrieve the results in that way.

What Kinds of Drugs Can Hair Drug Testing Detect?

Hair sample drug testing can detect all of the major types of drugs, including marijuana, opiates, methamphetamines, PCP, ecstasy, and cocaine. Hair follicle drug testing can detect the trace amounts of illicit substances trapped in the cortex of the hair for up to 90 days after use.

Employee drug testing programs often incorporate hair follicle drug testing into their plans because of the sheer accuracy of these tests. Even though hair testing is more expensive that a urine drug test kit, for example, they can provide a level of accuracy that is nearly ten times that of other testing methods. Likewise, hair follicle drug testing does not involve the embarrassing collection of samples like that of urine or saliva drug tests. In most cases, a few strands of hair is all that is needed to obtain accurate results.

Parents can also benefit from hair sample drug testing. Hair testing is discrete and confidential. An individual can be tested without their knowledge, making it so parents can know the truth about their teen's drug use first before making accusations. By using hair drug testing in the home, parents can safeguard their teens against drug abuse, and help them quit the abuse should test results come back positive.

Drug Test Confidentiality

Drug test confidentiality ensures that the employers, who report negative for the tests are not able to tamper the results of the tests. The companies too, take great care while conducting these tests as these tests can often lead to a person losing the job.

Significance of such tests

Many of the drugs usually result in accelerating the nervousness and heartbeat of the consumer. They result in euphoria and pleasant effects, but in the long run lead to sever behavioral changes. The companies ensure to maintain respect in the eyes of their customers. Any impertinent behavior of any of its employees can lead to trouble and confusion. Thus the companies these days require all their employees to undergo the drug test. The companies enjoy all the rights to reject the applicants if they report positive for any of the drug tests.

The confidentiality of the tests is thoroughly maintained

The companies are professional and maintain the confidentiality of the results. The results are not disclosed to any other employees. Even the labs performing the tests are enforced by law to strictly maintain the confidentiality of the drug tests.

Saliva test for drug testing

THC oral drug test is performed to check the presence of THC in the saliva. Again the positive results will not be beneficial for you. This test provides same results as obtained from the blood testing or urine testing. Labs are increasingly using the oral thc test as this does not require any special staff to take the samples from the people. It can also detect the use of the drugs in the previous hours to a few days.

How to pass a this test?

I suggest you must try a combination of different methods such as increasing your intake of water, taking foods that are rich in protein such a red meat, exercising regularly to burn the fat cells that store THC. It is always recommended that you must not eat anything 3 hours before the test. Also, avoid drinking plenty of water immediately before going for the test. Certain detox kits enable you to pass drug testing as they absorb all the toxins from the body.

You can certainly clear the test if you follow these methods.

Should We Legalize Performance-Enhancing Drugs In Tennis-Sports?

In the last 25 years the challenges presented by performance enhancing drugs in sports and the inadequacy of the drug testing agencies to deal with it, has come to a point that even high ranked officials are venting their frustration.

"There's definitely a performance-enhancing effect if you use things that improve oxygen transport to the tissue," says Larry Bowers, an expert on athletic drug testing and senior managing director of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. He says anonymous surveys of athletes indicate that only a tenth of them use performance-enhancing drugs. But he acknowledges that doped Athletes may win most of the time."

"Charles Yesalis, an epidemiology professor at Pennsylvania State University who has written extensively on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sport over the past 23 years, believes a "large percentage" of record-holders probably doped their way to the finish line. "A lot of experts, at least in private, feel that way," he says."

"Yesalis maintains that drug testing, as practiced at past games, has been a "farce." "Just because of my own value system, I have never seriously entertained legalizing drugs," says Yesalis. "But the stench of the hypocrisy is starting to outweigh my hesitation to just throw up my hands and say, 'Let everybody do whatever they want.'" Performance Drugs Outrun The Olympics - Matthew Herper, 02.15.02, 12:00 PM ET Forbes.com

As Charles Yesalis, of the US. Anti-Doping Agency, I feel like saying "'Let everybody do whatever they want.'", but perhaps it would be the wrong signal, so let us analyse, what might happen if performance-enhancing drugs were legalized for professional athletes:

- Young people would get the wrong message.

- Our general anti drugs laws would not make any sense because; athletes are users and abusers of illegal drugs such as;

Amphetamines, Diuretics, Growth hormone, Anabolic Steroids, Cocaine, Coca leaf juice, Cannabis even Monkey Brains and G.O.R.K. (God Only Really Knows)!

- All drugs would have to be legalized!

- We would have a quarter of the world taking speed, a quarter smoking cannabis another quarter snorting cocaine and the rest wondering what to take to look "Normal"! Kidding apart it would be a catastrophe! Or would it be?

- The already existing sports fanatics and wanabe champion dysfunctional and destitute of any talent would start taking drugs

in the hope it would work for them! (Even though it would not work, because you still need to be a pure bread/great athlete

to win.)

- Greedy parents would start pumping their children with all kinds of terrible things. (How naive am I, as if they were not

doing it now?)

- High school coaches of all sports would have a heyday!

"A 2005 survey of high school students across the country by the national Centres for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 4.8 percent had used steroids without a doctor's prescription.

Not that anyone needs a doctor. A 2005 study by monitoring the Future, a federally funded research organization, found that nearly 40 percent of high school seniors said steroids were "fairly easy" or "very easy" to acquire." Impact of steroids felt across high school sports C.W. Nevius Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - San Francisco Chronicle

So if; At the Sydney Games, out of almost 3000 athletes tested, some 80 per cent of them admitted to taking at least one ‘legal’ drug or supplement. Over 500 admitted to taking more than five. It is clear that the ‘medicalisation’ of human performance, at least at the Olympics, means that sport could not, ironically, exist without drugs whether they are ‘legal’ or not." Drugs in sport - a bitter pill to swallow Fri, Dec 8, 06 16:15

''No one wants to see me put the shot 65 feet or throw the discus 200 feet, and the only way I can make a big throw is to use steroids.'' He said the competition would still be legitimate because he said 80 percent to 90 percent of the athletes he would face were using steroids. VIEWS OF SPORT; Liberate Track and Field From Steroids VIEWS OF SPORT; By EDWIN MOSES

Nicolas Escude former ATP player (Career High ATP Ranking - Singles: 17 (26-Jun-2000) at the French open 2002. In Paris, French Davis Cup player Escude said: "To say that tennis today is clean, you have to be living in a dream world." By Piers Newbery - BBC Sport Online at Wimbledon Friday, 28 June, 2002, 17:05 GMT 18:05 UK

Now the case for making it legal for professional athletes to take drugs:

- If the estimate is that around the 80% of the Athletes use some sort of performance enhancing substance, there is a strong case for legalization!

- Performance enhancing drugs should be legal for professional athletes only and above the age of 18 years old.

- Laws should be made to protect non-professional athletes and youngsters - No Tolerance on use or abuse.

- No tolerance for the use of performance enhancing drugs for non-professional until the age of 18 years old!

- Doctors and Medicine Sports Centres should be responsible for the Athletes medication.

- The Athletes and Doctors and labs should take full responsibility for their own decisions.

- Coaches should stay completely out of the equation, the professionals on the field; Doctors, Scientists and Labs should be the only ones making decisions with the Athletes.

There are a lot more issues, but to make this article shorter we have to understand that, the general public is well aware of what is going on and so do officials, sponsors and governments. There is too much money involved, billions and billions of dollars; we are no longer in the "Pierre de Coubertin" era. It is time for a change and everyone will feel better with the situation, the IOC, the governing bodies, the testing sites and the Athletes themselves.

Why are we then continuing this charade? Keeping on saying that our sports are clean when in any given Olympic games more than 8O% of the Athletes are "sick" or asthmatic, or have liver, heart or lung problems in order to be prescribed "legal" (Illegal) drugs and compete! And when almost every week there is a report about drug use by professional Athletes!

Remember in my last article; - "SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- John McEnroe has reportedly admitted he unknowingly took steroids during his tennis career.

"For six years I was unaware I was being given a form of steroid of the legal kind they used to give horses until they decided it was too strong even for horses," McEnroe was quoted as saying in The Daily Telegraph newspaper in Sydney on Monday." [http://www.cnn.com/2004/SPORT/01/11/mcenroe.steroids.ap/] - CNN WORLD SPORTS Sunday, January 11, 2004 Posted: 8:52 PM EST (0152 GMT)

...and the ATP, the ITF and whoever else tests the players did not detect "HORSE DOSES of Steroids" in John McEnroe's urine or blood tests? Definitely, "They cannot be serious!"

"In his book ''You Cannot Be Serious'', McEnroe said he suspected that steroids and amphetamines had made their way into the top levels of the sport in the 80's. " Why were steroids or amphetamines not detected on other players either, that is if players were tested at all?

The excuse, "the tennis authorities were testing for recreational drugs only", oh!...and cocaine apparently stays in your body for the rest of your life in the roots of your hair. How come cocaine was never detected in any of the possible suspected culprits in the Tennis Tour then? Or is this a case of the whole world being "stupid" and these organizations know better?

We could go on and on citing more and more questionable actions by officialdom to no avail. The crux of all of this is; "Should we legalize performance-enhancing drugs in tennis/sports?" As much as I hate to say it, to bring this absurd hypocritical charade to an end, my answer is a redundant yes!

Medications: Are You Taking Too Many Prescription Drugs?

I recently discovered that a few of my over-40 patients appeared to be over-medicated from a combination of prescription drugs they had been given by different doctors. They came in complaining of not feeling well and said that they had been taking all of their prescriptions.

When I asked them what prescription medications they were taking, some reeled off a long list of drugs and others would bring in all of their pill bottles. One person was taking so many prescription drugs that they kept them in a shoe box! I was astounded at the amount of prescription drugs some were taking daily, often with duplicates and triplicates of the same types of drugs. No wonder they were feeling so poorly, complaining of things like memory loss, weakness, and stomach upsets.

Today, I'd like to talk to you about the potentially serious health risk of over-medication and how to prevent it.

How To Prevent Over-Medication

Over-medication is commonly referred to amongst medical personnel as polypharmacy, the taking of an excessive amount of prescription, pharmaceutical drugs. It is actually reaching epidemic proportions in the United States today, and it's most common in over-65 patients. It also occurs, however, in younger patients with multiple health conditions, including people who may be taking over 20 different drugs a day!

A patient may unknowingly be taking several prescriptions of the same types of drugs. How is that possible? Well, here's how.

A new patient came to me complaining about feeling ill with symptoms that were not related to her asthma condition. It was discovered that she was taking 5 different drugs, when only 2 were needed She had seen a few different doctors in the past and all had prescribed a drug for her condition. Trying to trust her doctors and follow their orders, she had just continued to take all of them! When we omitted the 3 extra drugs, her symptoms and ill-feelings disappeared.

Unfortunately, over-medication is not often discovered until a patient winds up in the hospital from either an overdose, or when they become ill from over-treatment, and/or side effects from taking too much of certain drugs. Sometimes a pharmacist notes that a patient has several doctors prescribing similar types of drugs and will alert the patient and/or physicians.

Did you know that 1.5 million adverse drug reactions occur in the United States every year, with thousands of them fatal? Research has shown that over half of all those events could have been prevented by streamlining a patient's drugs to the actual symptoms and effects of their specific medical condition. We've become, sadly, a culture of "a pill for every ailment". What can happen when a patient starts complaining about possible side effects from too many drugs is that another doctor will step in and prescribe a different medication for the same symptoms! Pretty soon, the patient is taking a whole arsenal of pills and not feeling any better. The answer is not to stop telling your doctor about ill feelings from possible side effects, but rather to better monitor the drugs you are given.

Before you end up in a hospital from an overdose or making yourself feel worse from taking too many medications, here are some ways to prevent from becoming over-medicated:

Talk to your pharmacist - ask if any of the medications you are taking could be causing certain side effects. Pharmacists often know specific side effects and drug interactions of specific drugs better than many doctors do. That's their job. It is important to tell them about any prescriptions you may have received from another pharmacy that you are continuing to take, as they will only know about the drugs dispensed from their pharmacy to you. This will help rule out duplicates of the same class of drugs, i.e. drugs for diabetes, drugs for heart condition, tranquilizer drugs, pain drugs, etc.

Talk to your physician - ask your doctor if it is possible to reduce the amount of drugs you are taking every day or week. Give the physician any information obtained from your pharmacist, i.e., drug information sheets that should include side effects or drug interactions. Or, have your doctor speak directly to your pharmacist about the drugs you are taking. It is likely the two of them can work out a more efficient pill taking regimen. Some physicians may feel insulted that you're asking them to work with a pharmacist on your behalf to reduce the amount of your prescriptions and may even reprimand you for not trusting him or her. If so, find another doctor.

Take Your Medications Correctly - it's not always the doctor's fault. Some people do not take their prescribed medications correctly or just don't take them at all. They continue to complain of symptoms and continue to have abnormal lab results, but are embarrassed to tell their doctor they didn't take their prescriptions consistently. A doctor may then think that the drug he prescribed to you is not working and may either increase the dosage or give you another prescription! Be sure to follow the directions on your prescription bottles exactly. Get a pill reminder box and fill it, or have someone you trust, fill it every week to ensure you are taking your medication as prescribed.

Know What Each Medication Is - it's up to you to participate in your health care. Know what each medication you take is for and how to take it correctly. Read the drug information sheets that are given by your pharmacy, discuss any questions with the pharmacist and/or your physician.

Don't Forget OTC's and Alternatives - even though these agents are sold "over-the-counter" they sometimes may interact adversely with prescription drugs or prevent them from working. Make sure you tell your doctor about any herbal supplements, vitamins, minerals, pain relievers, etc. For example, calcium cannot be taken within 3-4 hours of taking thyroid hormone as it will inactivate it. Grapefruit extract, an herbal supplement which some people take, can also interact with and/or prevent certain drugs from working. This is why it is important to detail everything you take.

Like some of my patients, you may need to take several prescription medications for various health issues that you may have. However, if you are taking a long list of medications, there is a risk that you may be over-medicating and you should take the time to talk to your doctor about possibly having your personal "pharmacy" reduced to a more effective, and safe, amount.

Using Home Drug Tests - Handling Home Drug Test False Positives

If you've seen the signs of drug use or symptoms of drug use in your teen and are considering the idea of using home drug tests to solve your problems before they get worse, then you might be worried about wrongfully accusing your teen of drug use because of a false positive result on your home drug test.

It's possible that poppy seeds, cold medications, and even some antibiotics in very high doses can cause false-positive results on certain types of tests. This is by FAR, the exception rather than the rule. However, it is still important that parents don't make the mistake of accusing their teens of drug use when the teen hasn't done anything wrong.

Lab tests and drug tests administered by medical professionals (as opposed to parents) also have false positives. The next step is the same for medical professionals as it is for parents.

All a parent who has used a home drug test needs to do is offer to have a special type of lab test performed for their child. It's called a GCMS confirmation test and it should be performed at a local lab on the sample that was provided by the teen. Most good hair tests include a confirmation test at no extra charge anyway. Guilty teens will usually admit their usage making further confirmation unnecessary.

When GCMS confirmation tests are performed at labs and they verify the results of the home drug test kit or teens come forward and admit their usage, then the problem of parents making false accusations is virtually eliminated.

If you want to know more about what is best for your teen or the steps to starting a home testing program, additional resources can be found at no charge at places like http://TestMyTeen.com.

Drug Abuse Testing - Commercialization of Drug Abuse Testing

Testing for the presence of illegal or banned substances has been in practice for some time, and is usually conducted by professionals and laboratories that specialize in drug abuse testing.

Drug abuse testing is mandatory by law for many jobs and professions, such as commercial drivers, law enforcement and other emergency personnel, and required by most employers and sports associations. The substances being tested for may not always be illegal; in the case of athletes, many performance enhancing drugs and/or steroids may also be screened for violation of rules, rather than laws.

There are two sides to the issue of drug abuse testing: safety of others, and the invasion of one's privacy. Many people feel that had our forefathers foreseen the technology to screen our blood and urine for the presence of chemicals, they would have included bodily fluids into the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution; the right to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures.

Others see drug screening as a way to keep them safer. For example, many people feel that it is legitimate to "invade our privacy" if it will keep truck drivers or forklift operators from operating potentially deadly equipment while under the influence of illegal drugs. Some people wish to work in an environment where they are not surrounded by other workers who use drugs, whether for safety reasons or personal preference.

In the world of sports, use of performance enhancing drugs gives an unfair advantage over other athletes who do not partake in the use of steroids or other boosting agents. Drug testing is therefore used by athletic associations to keep the players honest and within the guidelines allowed.

When drug abuse testing first came out, it was very easy to get false positive results from items that were similar to illegal drugs. Many people tested positive for heroin use from taking over the counter pain relievers such as Motrin, and poppy seeds were another common ingredient that gave false positive results. Over the years, the tests have become more refined; designed to screen out potential products or foods that could give a positive reading and possibly deny a person employment or worse yet, show drugs in their system after a fatal accident involving a commercial vehicle, where testing for the presence of illegal drugs is required by law.

In addition to the many labs and private companies that offer drug abuse testing on a commercial level, there are now home test kits available for parents who may suspect that their children may be using illegal drugs, or for people who may be facing a commercial drug test for an upcoming job interview. Many people still feel that these tests are intrusive to their privacy, and may elect to purchase a kit that allows them to "fool" the commercial test, and may use a home drug test kit one or more times prior to the actual test, to ensure that they will appear clean when they go to the lab.

Whatever reason you may have for taking one, or whether you agree with these tests or not, drug abuse testing has come a long way over the past decade and a half.

Using Home Drug Tests - Can Teens Beat a Home Drug Test Kit?

If you've seen what you think might be the signs of drug use or symptoms of drug use in your teen and are considering the idea of using home drug tests, but have worries that your teen might try to beat a drug test if you administered it, then you aren't alone. If your teen is able to beat a home drug test, then you could get the false impression that no drug problem exists. Ignorance is not bliss.

Good urine-based tests come with adulterant detectors to indicate when someone has tampered with a sample. Transparent home drug test kit designs also make it possible to see when foreign substances have been added to a sample. Temperature strips are built into the kits to ensure that a sample is fresh and watching a child urinate can help prevent substitution too. The idea of cheating successfully on a saliva based kit performed right in front of the parent is even a bigger stretch of the imagination.

If a parent catches a teen attempting to beat a test, then I would encourage them to seek professional help as soon as possible. That's a significant indicator that the teen is not simply experimenting with drugs and is more likely committed to continued use.

If you have seen signs of drug use and are REALLY worried that your teen will cheat on a urine-based, drug test kit, then there is another very simple option. Administer a hair test. Hair can be collected at home and sent to a lab. Adulteration attempts won't work on most good lab tests performed on hair.

If you want to know more about picking out the best test for your teen, or the steps to starting a home drug testing program, then do your homework. Preparation prevents problems.

What Does a Medical Lab Technician Do?

The job of Medical Lab Technician is expected to grow more quickly than average and have great job prospects in the future. However, before you decide to jump into this field, you should make sure you know the answer to the question "What does a medical lab technician do?"

Although the answer to this question might vary a bit depending on the place of employment, the basic answer is that they perform laboratory tests and procedures.

Generally, a Medical Lab Technician completes a certificate program or associates degree where they learn the necessary skills of the job. Some also take an exam so that they become certified, which makes it clear to employers that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to do their job well and makes it so that they will have an easier time finding positions.

Part of their training involves learning how to keep themselves and others safe as they test samples that are possibly contaminated with infectious diseases. If they know and follow the proper precautions, the job is considered to be pretty safe even if some of the samples do contain infectious material.

What does a medical lab technician do as a part of their job? They prepare specimens of blood and other body fluids for testing and analysis and perform some of the simpler automated tests, as well as some of the manual tests while following detailed instructions.

These tests might be to test for abnormalities, drugs, blood type, bacteria, parasites, microorganisms, and chemicals in the samples. Most of the actual analysis of the results is usually done by the Technologists or Laboratory Managers, though more simple analysis might be done by a Technician in some cases.

Generally medical lab techs work with a variety of equipment to analyze samples that they have been given. This includes microscopes, cell counters, and a lot of automated and computer equipment that can do a lot of different tests at the same time. The field is becoming more and more automated and computerized, which means that this job is becoming more about analyzing the results.

Medical Lab Technicians usually work under Medical Lab Technologists and do the less complex tests and analysis since they have less training than the Technologists.

Online Drug Stores

Drug stores are places where people get their medication. Originally, drug stores had doctors who conducted medical examinations, prescribed medicines, and also made those medicines. These days, drug stores are more or less just shops that dispense medications. Drug stores provide medications for all kinds of ailments. These can be prescription drugs or 'over-the-counter' drugs. Over-the-counter drugs do not need a prescription from a qualified doctor. There are many kinds of drug stores including community drug stores (includes a doctor as well as the pharmacist), hospital drug stores (attached to the hospital), and online drug stores.

Drug stores generally classify their medications into several categories including baby, child care, cosmetics, diet, nutrition, gifts, specialty, home medical supplies, household items, natural products, online exclusives, personal care, bath, sexual health, skin care, vitamins, and supplements. Many drug stores also provide valuable services such as lab services, medical clinics, health screenings, classes and events, and counseling by pharmacists.

Online drug stores, as opposed to traditional brick and mortar drug stores, are stores that enable one to shop for drugs over the internet. Many regular drug stores now have their own websites that enable online ordering of medicines. The procedure is also very easy as the drugs just have to be selected from a list, specifying strength, quantity, and form. A simple click of the button will confirm the order. Other ways to order drugs online are: mailing the prescription to the drug store, having the doctor call or fax the prescription directly to the drug store, or the drug store could call the doctor. Payment can be made by credit card or by insurance/discount card. The medicines will arrive within 14 days.

Online drug stores also provide other value added services like customized prescription records for insurance or tax records, information about drug recalls, as well as other safety notices, online counseling by pharmacists, and drug refill reminder services.

Facts to Know About Drug Testing

Drug Testing is a measure to detect the intake of drugs by a person. Its areas of application include home, workplace, sports and even in law enforcements. Drug testing is also very useful in finding out the amount of drug taken by the person. There are various methods of conducting the tests and these tests are usually conducted in Testing Labs by taking various samples of the person's body, for example urine, blood, sweat or even hair.

Nowadays there are Instant drug testing kits available in the market which can be used by anyone. These kits can give you results in a few minutes. But unlike lab testing, the results of instant testing kits are not very accurate and one cannot test for all drugs.

Now what are the basic factors you need to check while buying drug testing its? First and foremost it needs to have latest state of the art machines and gadgets to help provide you with instant and totally reliable Testing results. It should have been founded a few years back and be a popular and trusted name in the Drug and Substance Testing industry. It is better if they are members of the Drug and Industry Association, National Defense Industry Association, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America and San Diego Better Business Bureau.

At the same time it is a better option if they are associated with many deserving non-profit and non-governmental organizations working for the betterment of mankind. Ideally a socially conscious manufacturer should have distributed numerous drug testing kits to NGOs to help prevent drug abuse. These are being used extensively in Drug rehabilitation centers across the globe.

Special Features

o One problem with most testing centers is delay in results of the tests. But a good testing centre should provide with accurate results in the shortest time possible. Also all your tests are kept confidential.

o The drug testing kits should also provide you with efficient results at your service in no time. Be it at home, in the office or a camp, the products have always been the most reliable and affordable means for Drug Testing. Their services range from instant drug and alcohol testing to complete corporate drug testing programs.

o All the tests that are marketed are OTC or FDA approved, and hence there are no questions on the quality of the products.

o The testing service provider should have a dedicated customer service, because in this industry, customers and their satisfaction is a high priority.

Types of Drug Screening Kits -

o Urine Drug Screening Kits - These kits use the urine samples of the person for the Drug Test. These kits are available in three types - Dip form, Cassette form and Cup form.

o Saliva Drug Screening Kits - The saliva of the person is used to conduct the test. The only disadvantage of this test is that the saliva must be collected more recently after the intake of the drug.

o Hair Drug Screening Kits - These are the most effective in drug testing methods, because the test of the hair samples can reveal consumption of drugs even ninety days back.

Testcountry.com provides the most comprehensive source for all test like drug test which can get you effective results on drugs like marijuana, cocaine etc. Better visit our website whether you have to visit a drug rehabilitation centre or not.

Lab Technicians

In clinical laboratory testing, diseases are diagnoses and cared for. This testing is done by what we call clinical laboratory technicians. Clinical laboratory technicians perform different tests on fluids and cells. These technicians also match blood types and analyze the levels of drug concentration in the blood. They also identify bacteria, viruses and parasites. These technicians use a lot of tools to carry out these tests like microscopes and other equipments that can do a lot of tests in one time. They also summarizes the data and relays all information or results to the doctor for their evaluation. Being a clinical laboratory technician requires a person to have good analytical skills and also hands-on skills. Clinical laboratory technicians do not perform test of the same complexity as what technologists do. These technicians prepare samples and use a machine in performing these tests and some tests are also done manually. These clinical laboratory technicians also specialize in a specific field in performing such tests. Some of these specializations are phlebotomy where one specializes in blood collection. Those who concentrate in getting tissue samples for analysis are called histotechnicians. Clinical laboratory technicians are managed by clinical laboratory technologists. These clinical laboratory technicians work environment and working hours depends on the employer. Large employers like big well-known hospitals make use of technicians working in day, evening and also night shifts. Some also work n holidays and also in weekends. Some work during on-calls and overtime. These technicians work with different tissues and fluids and this will lead to few dangers. With this, following a proper safety protocol is vital like wearing gloves, masks and goggles. These technicians undergo trainings on how to deal and work with infectious and dangerous samples. It is important for the working environment to be clean and well lit.

In becoming a clinical laboratory technician, it is important to have a clinical lab technician education. Having an education is always a first step in having a professional career. Most lab technician schools require a high school diploma. High school subjects like sciences and math are the first preparations offered. So when already enrolled in a lab technician school, a person has to choose whether to get an associate degree or certification from a college, university or vocational school. These schools also offer trainings that can help in enhancing ones skills. Having a certification is not mandatory but this will give a person an advantage in the work. The best training as a lab technician is to take two-year accredited training from a good school or university. These technicians also have the option to study to become a technologist.

The lab technician salary depends on the level of employment and the location of the work. In hospitals, a person may earn about $40,000 a year while those working in clinics or offices earn less. Those institutions located in metropolitan cities provide a salary that is more than those technicians working in small towns. This is because of the way of living and costs of basic needs in metropolitan cities.

Lab Technicians analyze and diagnose the sample's given to them and relays the information to the doctors for them to understand the disease and discover the cure. See this site to know more: Lab Technician

A Drug to Extend Life - Rapamycin May Be the Fountain of Youth

My optimism for extending healthy human life went up a few notches in 2009 when the results of the testing of rapamycin came out. This was a major event in anti-aging research that could have implications for longevity and rejuvenation.

Rapamycin is the first pharmaceutical known to extend healthy life in mice. Mice are genetically similar to humans, so what is good for the mouse might be good for the man (and woman). This study came about as a result of happenstance. Two chance events lead to a discovery that may change the face of old age.

Back in the 1980s Dr. Z. Dave Sharp of the University of Texas, San Antonio heard of an experiment done in Switzerland, unrelated to aging, using rapamycin. He had a hunch that this immunosuppressant drug might work to extend life; it appeared to affect cell growth in lab animals in much the same way as calorie restriction, already proven to extend life. It was an idea he carried around for many years, nobody was interested.

Almost 20 years later a conversation with a colleague turned his hunch into a full-fledged experiment. It was 2004 and Intervention Testing Program of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) was newly formed. Founded by Huber Warner who realized. "I saw lots of papers from grantees of the NIA about slowing down aging and expending lifespan but they were rarely backed up and given credibility through testing." Huber realized that a focused program was needed so that more than one lab was confirming whether an intervention works. He proposed the idea to the NIA that led to the Intervention Testing Program.

ITP generally selects studies based on treatments that are easily obtainable, reasonably priced and delivered in the food of the mice. The research is conducted in three labs, chosen by ITP, to conduct the tests with mice: University of Michigan, Jackson Laboratories in Maine and University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio - the same University where Dave Sharp is based.

It was this Program that took Dave's ideas from concept to reality with efficiency and credibility. Dave mentioned his idea to Randy Strong, the head of the lab at San Antonio and Randy liked it. He encouraged Dave to put in a proposal for testing. It was approved in 2005.

Things got a little complicated after that. The mice were ready to go but early tests showed that the rapamycin in the mice food lost its potency. Randy worked fast and furiously with Purina to find a solution, and he did. The rapamycin was encapsulated to preserve its strength and be released in the intestines of the mice. This was a novel delivery method.

At this point the mice were getting old, about 600 days old - the equivalent of 60 year old humans. The researchers had to decide if they wanted to proceed; it was too late to replace the nearly 2,000 genetically similar mice that were ready to go. Luckily they did.

The results were beyond anything they could have hoped for. Rapamycin delayed the deaths of the longest-lived male mice by 101 days and the longest-lived female mice by 151 days. That is similar to 13 human years! Or, when you take into account the average remaining lifespan when the treatment began, it is an increase of 38% in female mice and 28% in males.

How rapamycin works remains unclear. It may impact cellular efficiency with the result of delaying aging and preserving good health. The results do not show that the drug prevented any single disease, the mice died of various causes, but they do show that aging was slowed. The mice remained healthy and cancer free longer than any normal life expectancy.

Intervention Testing Program tests have been conducted with aspirin, green tea extract and other interventions. The results with rapamycin are the first major breakthrough from an ITP study, with strong results in rejuvenation and extended lifespan in both male and female mice.

It remains to be seen what impact this will have for humans but the very idea that a drug - an immunosuppressant used for transplant patients, discovered in Easter Island soil samples about 40 years ago - might give us all a longer, healthier life is good news!

Information About Drug Testing

You need drug testing centers for getting accurate results for drug tests. The best results will be available within a short time. The facility will help to detect the drugs that are used in the workplace, law enforcement and even at homes. At times, the services of a lab are used as a sort of screening process before hiring the potential employees. Parents may also send a sample in order to know if their children are using drugs.

There are a number of centers around the country, which offer different methods for testing. Some will use saliva testing; hair testing and others will use urine testing and seat testing. After the donor collects the sample, the sample will sent to the facility and if the traces of illicit substances are found, then the donor will be tested positive. When you think of the accuracy level, you will find that most on site products are as good as the labs. The on-site option is convenient for most families.

Some are confused while deciding between a testing kit and a lab. The level of accuracy is one of the determining factors which will help you to make a decision. The rate at which the results can be produced along with the cost of sample collection will be taken into consideration. The method is important so you need to know about the methods used in the drug testing centers. In case of online testing, once the sample is collected, it will be tested immediately with the help of an on site drug test. In case of a testing facility, the process will be lengthy as the sample will be sent to the lab first and then the results will be taken out. This is more time-consuming and the whole process will take up more than a week.

In case of on-site testing, the testing method will be more effective. If you buy home testing kits in bulks, you can save a lot of money. The level of accuracy is higher and you can be assured of good results. If you are worried about your teen and his or her abnormal behavior, you can use a home drug testing kit, instead of taking the samples to a drug testing centre. With a home drug testing kit, you will be assured of a faster procedure. The time taken by the lab can be pretty excruciating, especially if you are worried about your child. The home testing kits are reliable alternatives. If you want to know about a good company which can help you in this matter is TestCountry. There are a number of corporate drug testing programs like instant alcohol and drug tests, and corporate drug testing program.

Are you looking for local drug testing centres, you have come to the right place, the only drug testing centre accredited by FDA is at your service at your doorsteps anytime.

Proven Expert Advice on Meth Labs to Help First Responders Stay Safe

A meth lab is more dangerous than any legal lab or chemical manufacturing plant.

AN EXPLOSION WAITING TO HAPPEN

Meth labs have been defined as an "explosion waiting to happen." In fact, 25%-30% of all labs exposed in the U.S. are detected as a result of fire or explosion. These pose a threat to all emergency personnel. The CDC released a report in 2000 about the number of first responders injured in meth-related lab accidents in states that report such incidents. In 112 accounted cases from 1996-99, 79 emergency providers were hurt: 55 law enforcement officers, 9 EMS personnel, 8 firefighters and 7 hospital workers. The police and EMS figures reflect that these groups do not commonly wear suitable PPE for these types of situations, whereas firefighters approach most situations with splash suits and respiratory gear in place.

Chemical contamination. The chemicals employed to cook meth and the poisonous compounds and by-products ensuing from its manufacture produce toxic fumes, vapours, and spills. Exposure to low levels of some meth ingredients may bring about headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue; exposure to high levels can bring on shortness of breath, coughing, chest pain, dizziness, lack of coordination, eye and tissue irritation, chemical burns (to the skin, eyes, mouth, and nose), and death. Corrosive substances can cause harm through inhalation or contact with the skin. Solvents can irritate the skin, mucous membranes, and respiratory tract and impact the central nervous system. Prolonged exposure to the chemicals commonly employed in meth production may cause cancer; damage the brain, liver, kidney, spleen, and immunologic system; and result in birth defects.

Among the most telltale characteristics of a meth lab is the repelling smell created during cooking. It is usually what discloses meth houses in populated areas. But labs may not be confined to urban areas; rurally there are old barns and homes that sit removed from the road with fewer neighbors, and a great deal of fresh air to thin out the odor. This means EMS providers, even in smaller towns and rural locations, want to be mindful of the characteristics of meth labs and how to address with them safely.

Once you realize you are in a drug lab, get out as quickly as possible. Watch out for trip wires or other hazards as you leave. Attempt to develop a quick impression of the area so you will be able to relay as much data as possible to new responders. Relocate your vehicles, gear and yourself to a safe area. In a case with victims down, some accident has already occurred, and if the lab has not exploded yet, it could be just a matter of time before it does.

What Do My Lab Results Mean?

One of the most frightening things I learned while in veterinary school was that blood results are not really considered abnormal by a lab test until the body is 70% sick. I found that to be true in my own health as well. When I first started on my path toward becoming a naturopath, I knew I had pre-cervical cancer. I was depressed and wanted to die. Yet, only one liver enzyme was a bit out of whack when a nurse drew my blood for a life insurance policy. How could this be? And what surprised me most was how normal the rest of my results were.

Well, I've corrected all those abnormal results and have my life back. I also have a whole new bag of tricks at my disposal.

Another thing I've found over the years was that my clients had no idea what their lab results meant (or their pet's lab results), what a "rule out" was, or what they could do naturally to repair the abnormal values. Everything seemed so complicated for them, and by not understanding the results (often people in the medical profession use big words that most people can't understand) this disempowered my clients.

Because I saw a need for this information, I sat down and compiled a handout that explains lab tests in lay terms, but there are some things you should know:

1. Reference "normal" ranges and unit measurements can vary from lab to lab (sometimes up to 30% difference).

2. Other factors influencing test results include, dietetic preferences, sex, age, race, species, menstrual cycles, amount of exercise, use of non-prescription drugs (aspirin, cold medications, vitamins, etc.), prescription drugs, alcohol consumption, collection and handling of the specimen.

3. For best comparisons of lab results, tests should be done by the same laboratory.

4. Always use the normal ranges printed on the lab report of that particular sample.

5. Blood tests can have false positives and negatives. If the blood cells have not been handled properly, they break. If components to the test are expired, they may not work correctly. If the temperature is wrong, this may also skew the results. And what if there is a new person in the lab who doesn't even do the test correctly? Would you trust those results? When in doubt, you may want to repeat certain tests.

6. Interpretation of blood tests takes knowledge of the underlying disease process and experience. If your lab results are outside the normal range, we suggest that you discuss them with your doctor. Often it is not the recent result, but the change from a previous test that is most helpful in trying to place a diagnosis on a condition.

7. Some tests cost more than others. If you can help the doctor understand why a certain test may be important for you and they can justify it in their mind, they can justify it to your insurance company and you may get to your diagnosis quicker saving time, money, and aggravation.

8. All diseases have "rule outs." There are a number of things that might cause a high or low level in a blood test, and these need to be "ruled out" by other tests or observations or even by intuition and gut instinct. Some of the possibilities will have more weight and be more highly suspect because of your lifestyle habits, your environment, your age, and your history.

For those diseases that are the most likely diagnosis, other tests may be included to rule that particular disease "in" or "out" depending on the results of these additional tests. This is much like putting a jigsaw puzzle together and searching for the exact placement of the pieces to the puzzle. Certain clues (pieces to the puzzle) may fit in one part of the puzzle or another if you just look at the color of the piece (or your symptoms in this case.) You just have to keep trying to see if the piece fits. The same goes with disease. If we are lucky, we match the piece of the puzzle with the correct name/diagnosis for the disease.

This Sherlock Holmes activity is one of my favorites because I get to add in so many other tidbits of information that the medical system doesn't have time to ask in making a final "jigsaw puzzle" assessment. I have tried to make these rule-outs more understandable by associating the layman's terminology with the medical work on my website page: http://www.naturalhealthtechniques.com/BasicsofHealth/lab_result_meaning1.htm

Here, I've listed the rule-outs, what you see on your blood test form, the common name it is known by as well as the other abbreviations for the test if it has one for most of the basic blood panels, heart enzyme tests, urinalysis tests, complete white blood counts, red cell counts, thyroid tests, hormone tests and more.

I've been told it's a pretty good list. Check it out and see if it empowers you!

Drug Abuse In Colorado

Mexican trafficking organizations are the ones that are responsible for the heavy influx of most varieties of drugs in the state of Colorado. While the distribution of marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine is under their control, club drugs are mostly distributed by independent traffickers who depend of suppliers both within and outside the United States. As such, street gangs that are a part of criminal organizations operating in Texas, Mexico, and California provide the drugs to users. Easy availability of drugs in Colorado is a contributing factor in the increase in the number of drug users and the number of meth users has more than doubled from 2000 to 2005.

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) declared that the number of DUI arrests for New Year's Eve holiday went up to 449, which was much higher than the previous year's record of 407. These arrests were done during the enforcement period of The Heat Is On Campaign and speak volumes about the popularity of drugs in parties and clubs. More than eighty percent of convicts in Colorado prisons are believed to have substance-abuse problems and many of them have landed up in jail due to drug related crime.

Cocaine is one of the most popular drugs in Colorado, though heroin and meth are also abused by most drug users. Colorado receives a steady supply of meth from Mexico and California where there are plenty of clandestine labs that produce the deadly drug. Club drugs happen to be one of the most dreaded types of drugs as they bring along other crimes such as prostitution, violence, and pornography. There is a great demand for MDMA while others like GHB, LSD, and Ketamine are also popular in the nightclub scene. Marijuana, which is supposedly the most abused drug in the state, comes from Mexico while its most potent and expensive version "BC Bud" is smuggled into the state from British Columbia, and the Pacific Northwest.

The state of Colorado is currently involved in introducing different programs to deter drug traffickers and discourage drug abuse. They have attained considerable success in closing down several meth labs in Colorado thereby reducing the supply. Over the past five years, drug use among the young populations has reduced by almost 20 percent which means Colorado's efforts in fight against drugs are on the right track.

People can choose from a wide range of drug rehab programs offered in drug rehab and treatment centers across Colorado. They need to carefully understand what a rehab center can do for their loved one to help him fight drugs effectively. Some drug rehabs may not offer a drug detox program, which is usually regarded as one of the most important aspects of a treatment program. Although people can count on an efficient drug rehab center to overcome addiction, they also need to practice resistance techniques that they had acquired there to stay away from all those stimulants that can trigger the addiction again. This could be a place where they abused drugs for the first time or a pal with whom they abused drugs.

Candida Drugs - More Side Effects Than Benefits

Someone asked me if I have taken Nizoral for my candida drugs. She got her test results back from Great Smokies Lab, which indicated she may have a small overgrowth of yeast, although that is inconclusive. This medication seems very nasty from the research she has done, and she is scared to take something that could cause fatal liver failure, since her yeast levels could be normal. According to the lab, though, her strain of yeast is resistant to other remedies, including caprylic acid and Nystatin.

She is taking probiotics (Primal Defense) which has helped a great deal, and she has changed her diet. It feels like an extreme drug to take since she doesn't have many health problems related to candida, only IBS, and those symptoms are already greatly diminished.

In my thought, I feel that she must have more of an overgrowth than I do, because mine was too low to even do a sensitivity panel. Also, I don't think Nizoral is the only thing you can take in this situation. Just make sure to take things for the liver. I have been taking Sporanox (200mgs/day) and I use milk thistle and NAC to protect mine. So far, I feel great and my liver tests are normal.

I had taken Nizoral very steady for years, though. I took it because it was the only thing that semi worked on my strain and to the magnitude that I was infested with colonies. It started to do damage to my liver at year 3. I cut back then, and only took it after that when the yeast affected my respiratory breathing ability. I repaired my liver with liver supplements for 3 years once I got the dose down and was off it.

I feel that Nizoral also debilitated and/or compromised my immune system similar to the way antibiotics does. I also had to take more and more Nizoral to function. Now that I am much smarter and experienced with yeast, I now would only choose to take Nizoral for a quick dose of 2-7 days. I found that if it does not work on my problem area by then, it never would. The side effects were greater than the benefit.

10 Things To Know About Workers' Compensation and Workplace Drug Testing

Employees must be aware of the ins and outs of the company or the company they are planning working with. This includes their privilege to workers' compensation insurance and the right of the company to conduct a workplace drug testing.

Workers' compensation covers the employee's losses caused by injuries at work. Depending on the company, a drug test is done for job candidates and/or current employees. Understanding about workers' compensation and workplace drug testing helps you reduce fears at work and prepare you for any disciplinary actions that the company may impose if you fail in the test.

Here are ten things you must know about workers' compensation and workplace drug testing.

1. Workers' compensation is a law required of companies in all fifty states. That stated, it is the state government that determines the workers' compensation and not the IRS. In some states, the government institutes a workers' compensation program while in other states; the government relies on private insurance companies. To learn what covers the worker's comp and the rules applied by your state, it is advised that you talk to your state insurance commissioner or the company's insurance agent.

2. The workers' compensation does not only protect the employees but the employers as well. Workers' compensation insurance safeguards companies against lawsuits. "Without the right coverage, an injured worker might sue your business to recover medical costs, disability costs and damages."

3. Worker's compensation premiums vary depending on the nature and scope of business and the type of job you (as a worker) does plus your number of work hours. Coverage of the policy does have limitations as to the expenses. In addition, policy coverage varies in different states.

4. Not all employees are covered by the workers' compensation policy. Part-time employees and contractors are usually exempted of the policy.

5. Injury and illness attributed to your job are covered by the policy so it is important that you report your issue to your office as soon as possible. Injuries caused by accidents said to be "our fault" (by the company) is still covered by the policy. For example, you are at work and you trip over a chair or you slip on a banana peel.

6. Drug test is done to ensure that employees are in their right frame of mind and is capable of performing their job. Workplace drug testing applies to both job applicants and current employees who have not undergone the test yet. Tests can be done in the office or in the confines of approved labs. However, a number of states require all drug testing to be done in labs.

7. Employers may refuse to hire job applicants found to be positive of drug use. Employers may fire employees who failed in the test.

8. Or instead of firing the employee, the employer may reassign him and give him non-safety-sensitive duties. At the same, the employer may send him to a counseling program. Until completed, the employee can perform his usual duties.

9. Notwithstanding failure in drug test and the legal actions taken by the employer, the employee can still challenge it in court and win.

10. When you are to obtain workers' compensation insurance due to accident-for example, you were high while driving your way to the office-your employer may ask you to undergo a drug test before granted the workers' comp and if found positive, you will be denied of the privilege.

Today, more and more individuals are taking a huge interest in their health and wish to learn more about what may be causing their ailments without visiting a doctor for him or her to second-guess the condition. Many times, visiting a physician will only give you a prescription for the symptoms instead of looking for the root of the problem. Today, you can now find home lab tests that will allow you to take tests to learn more about what might be causing your symptoms. In most cases, the test will only require a saliva sample, urine sample, or in some cases a blood test that is only a pin prick.

The home lab tests you can now find online include Adrenal Fatigue Testing, Adrenal Stress Index, Amino Acid Test, Autism Testing, Blood Spot Tests, Blood Test, Blood Typing Reactive Protein, Candida Test, Cardiovascular Tests, Environmental Pollutants, Food Allergy Test, Gastrointestinal Tests, Genomic Testing, Hair Analysis, Heavy Metals Test, Hormone Tests, Metabolic Test, Multiple Sclerosis Neuroimmunology Panel, Neurotransmitters, Nutritional Tests, Organic Acids Test, Thyroid Testing, and Vitamin Analysis Description.

All of the tests are from reputable companies such as Metametrix, Neuroscience, Genova, Diagnostechs, LabCorp, ZRT, and Doctors Data to name a few and you will not need any type of order from your physician to order the tests.

The reason so many people are turning to home lab testing is that they are tired of visiting their doctor to only be given a prescription for a drug that will cause the pain to go away temporary, allow them to feel better with antidepressants, or other such medications that really only mask the symptoms. Our bodies provide us with symptoms so we know that something is wrong, using medications to mask these symptoms can be detrimental to our overall health and well-being. Finding the root of the problem and treating the condition or ailment is the only way to ensure a healthy lifestyle.

Many of these ailments and conditions can be treated with all natural products without the side effects often seen with prescribed medications. Therefore, using home lab test to learn what is causing your symptoms may aid in preventing you from taking all kinds of drugs you may not need at all. Instead of covering up your symptoms, which is nothing more than pacifying you, you will have lab results that you can show your physician so you can then be headed in the right direction for an accurate diagnosis.

Now, you have the control in your hands when it comes to certain lab tests, which will ultimately be an aid in your diagnosis and the correct treatment.

Make Drug Testing Mandatory in Your Workplace

Many companies have saved their time, money, and workforce with the help of drug and alcohol testing. Drugs and alcohol, two major vices and culprits that stray people from the right path are being recognized and tackled by various employee programs. In some companies drug and alcohol screening has become mandatory for several reasons. Perhaps this is one extremely positive way that can create the awareness to addictions.

One excellent resource to take on the challenge of drug abuse is drug testing. Individuals, corporate bodies, and parents are three different sections who play a vital role in taking up drug testing.

Parents may find temporary solace in believing that their children are shielded against drugs, but a reality check is a must. Some fearful statistics point out that more children are becoming captive to drugs. And yes, the numbers far exceed the limits one can ever think of. A recent survey released by the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), shows that marijuana use for teens is staying stable and has been for the past five years. This is the time when parents want to keep a close eye on any behavioural pattern among children and if they find anything questionable, they will want to consider drug testing. The drug testing laboratories actually function in a neutral manner and can help in detecting any drug or alcohol use. Timely detection can save many children from starting a fatal addiction. Parents can use instant result drug screening kits to test and get certain results on exposure to drugs and alcohol.

In recent times, employers are finding it mandatory to place their employees and prospective employees under a drug and alcohol screening process. Their screening process successfully reveals any history with drugs in recent times. Employers must understand that it's both a social responsibility and for their own benefit, to discourage drug addicts form getting into organizations. Such employees are vulnerable to poor performance and earn a bad name for the company. These employees also tend to steal and indulge in crimes if they go undetected. This also has a bad effect on others who work in the same environment. Alcohol testing is extremely important even when one employee is showing signs of on the job usage which may lead to low output and not meeting assigned targets.

Lastly, many individuals take personal drug tests to know whether they test positive to drug tests after they have quit their drug use and prior to seeking employment. Both drug and alcohol screening can be done in a single lab. There are private testing labs who give confidential and accurate results.

Everyone must realize that keeping a tab on exposure to drugs is one of the most important methods to minimize the rapid growth of drug use.
