Test Policy Board reviews

Randolph County Board of education passed the second reading of the policy that required random drug testing for student athletes and drivers.

During a meeting on Monday, two people spoke against a policy that violates the rights of Amendment 4 for students.

He said former teacher in Randolph County Board hodok Phil "that what we have here no probable cause". "(Students) are responsible for their parent."

The Board approved the second reading of the policy of taking sample poems from a random selection of student drivers and athletes. Each student will be tested not participating in any activity or drives, random drug testing will be selected. High school and middle school would be subject to random selection, according to the policy.

If a student is found using the drugs, crime, parent or guardian will meet with the principal and driving privileges be abolished until a guardian present student guide was transmitted to the Office monitoring events in Randolph County and is requesting access to drugs and counseling. If the consent of parents and students, student resume activity and/or driving to school.

Any crime again, all privileges will be suspended for 90 days and that could take and then another student drug testing. A third student commenting will drive or engage in activity for one year.

Hodok and Sarah Murray agreed that policy violates the fourth amendment because it will be tested without reason to believe the student is the consumption of illegal drugs.

Hodok said "children are a defence against this". "I think it is bad policy. I don't see the problem of drugs is rampant. "

Murray said although it believes that the Council had "purists," should reconsider approval policy. Wondered why cost was notable athletes, drivers, and if policy will extend to trained teachers, staff and Board members. She even called negative experiences of drug abuse remains "is guilty peers."

Superintendent Dr. James Knight spoke to the Council before the vote, recalled that still have the opportunity to change this policy prior to implementation.

Knight said that "this is not a final decision until the comment period on 4 April.

The Council approved the measure unanimously at second reading.

"Now, this policy out for review," said Council President Lisa wamslii "intirmontin" following the meeting. "We welcome comments from the public to examine policies for student athletes and drug drivers".

The Council will meet again on April 4 at 6 pm in the Office of the province.
